ARTICLE: 3 Steps to Get the Job You Want

And before you cry ‘clickbait!’, I’m being totally serious.

This was the game changer for me; so I’ll tell you what was the catalyst to finally getting me a great job after some really wretched luck in my career.

After having a fairly steady career path, I took a dip. A big ‘ol, really terrible dip. And I've only just recovered, so I'll share the process to repair with you

The way fix it will surprise you.

Is it a quick fix? No. I unfortunately found out the hard way that there are no quick fixes. It was a long, arduous process, but one that had to be started and continued to see any sort of traction. You might stumble here and there, but if you lay down a plan for yourself with realistic goals, you can make it!

Step 1: Keep doing stuff!

This is advice is aimed for creative types*, especially as many of us are taken for granted almost as if our job is not important. People want to pay us in ‘exposure’ or the bare minimum, and many think that’s ok, it’s not. You have to keep learning new skills, keep on doing projects whether you have a job or not, because that is your currency. You can TELL people that you can do things till you’re blue in the face, but if you actually have end-products to show, that is what shows what you can do, really. So keep on doing personal projects that teach you new skills and which will in turn…

Step 2: …Keep your portfolio fresh!

That’s right. If you are any type of creative whether it is in video and motion graphics, audio and sound, digital or traditional art and design, photography, even marketing, etc, your portfolio can be more important that your actual CV, in fact, it IS your CV most times. Dependant on your field of expertise, there are many websites that you can use as a portfolio without even owning your own personal website (which is recommended but not necessary; I myself have to still create one) Behance, 500px, CG Society, Artstation, Soundcloud, so many artists and creatives use these platforms to display their work and keep their audience growing and captivated by adding more amazing pieces of work to it, consistently. Heck, some artists are even moving away from traditional portfolio websites and making Instagram their main playing field, scoring thousands of hits and followers on their work, and many times, getting quite a bit of paying work from the exposure they generate themselves from displaying their work on IG.

Step 3: Totally Revamp your CV

How about combining your portfolio/skills and making your CV a piece of functional art. Too many people’s CVs aren’t even read because they look so mundane, mediocre, or just plain bad. If you are a creative, make your CV a project and make it reflect what kind of works you’re good at, if you are not visually creative, get a professional to do it for you. There are many local services that offer such this service, including me!

This was the biggest change for me. After nearly 9 years of being a work professional, I decided to make my CV a personal art project, and I totally revamped it, built it over from the ground up! And it finally worked. I’m now working for a dynamic company that not only values me, but plays into all of my strengths and I get to do what I enjoy and get paid for it, and there is room for growth and even MORE learning!

What are you waiting for? Throw that old CV out, and get a fresh start!

If people latch onto this, I can see; The Funko POP! movie being a thing. I mean, if they could make an emoji movie...

It's getting close! Another Thor: Ragnarok teaser!

I seriously can't wait for the the third Thor movie, so much is at stake and it's building up to the Infinity War movies, it's gonna (ragna)ROK!

We see some more of the little we've seen happen so far, with Thor having a chat with Valkyrie, and it's inter-cut with epic battle shots! Shit's gonna get wild AF!

Check out the teaser below:

This is usually how the meme goes:

TEASER: The PUNISHER (Netflix)

The Marvel Netflix series' are dark, gritty, and as grounded in reality as series can be that focus on super-powered individuals. It's really epic, and if you've not gotten into it just yet, you have a lot to catch up on!

The culmination of the 4 individual series (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist) was released by Netflix recently and so far, it's great! In that same universe is our violent friend, the Punisher. His stint in the Daredevil series was gory and bloody but his development as a character was well done, he will now get his own series, and looking at the teaser trailer for it that was dropped recently, it looks like it's going to be a bloody-good mess! I can't wait!

GAME TRAILER: Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite

Lately Capcom have been doing some great work with their fighting games, and I've been a fan of their crossovers ever since the first Marvel Vs Capcom many moons ago, and their latest offering is the MCU-heavy Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite.

With no X-men in sight, it panders heavily to MCU fans but obviously there is also the pesky licencing issue, so that makes sense. Regardless, its roster is absolutely jam-packed with so many cool characters. It doesn't look nearly as good as Injustice, of course, but it looks like a solid, all-out fun-fest. I'd love to get my hands on it to try out all the cool new faces and many old ones too! Check out the story mode trailer below!

FILM: Guardians on Blu Ray...

I love Guardians.

Most people do.

But just when you thought nothing could top the awesomeness of Guardians Vol One and GOTG Vol 2, they do this to release their Blu-Ray DVD. I love it.

It's a music video featuring the HOFF. You can't go wrong with a HOFF feature.

Marvel Posters

There are so many cool Marvel movies coming out in the next few years, and I've found some cool posters to share with you all!

The concept artists and designers who work on these films work so hard and go through 100s, sometimes 1000s of different drafts and versions of the characters and storyboards of the scenes. They are the unsung heroes of it all! Here are some posters for you to enjoy, made by guys and gals that work really hard on bringing our comic book heroes to life!

SHORT: Gummy Gas Crisis

Here's a nice random tidbit for your Friday

This short oozes nostalgia as it's old-timey gaming looks and sounds take you back to a bygone time. It's really, really well done and it's one of those animation shorts that look good on every freeze frame!

Enjoy!

TRAILER: The Defenders

A lot of people go on and say Mmm, DC is more realistic and grittier than Marvel, now although I'm a fan of both, I love Marvel just a litttttle more because of how they build universes. The Marvel Netflix universe is darker and grittier than DC could ever hope to be in modern times in any movie/series format and they've built up quite a cool universe out of the four main heroes, and I quite frankly can't wait for the Defenders series!

Iron Fist aside, all the other Netflix Marvel Heroes had very, very good solo series, so it's gonna be so cool to see them battling alongside each other against a new foe!

Check out the new trailer for the Defenders series here!

NEWS: 2 SA Actors cast in FLASH!

Guys, I can't believe it, how did BART from 7de Laan, go from that to frikken being cast as a villain in the Flash series on CW!

Well frikken done, mate!

Wow, Neil Sandilands has been cast as the main villain in Season 4 of the Flash and Kim Engelbrecht cast as well, also as a baddie.

How epic is that! Proudly SA! He'll be the Thinker and she'll be the Mechanic. I cannot wait to see them in action, as The Flash is one of my favourite series!!

I'd love to see more SA actors in international series and films playing main roles, and I hope this will continue to open doors for our talent!

TRAILER: Thor: Ragnarok

OMG, OMG, OMG!

How epic does this look, it's like Thor x Guardians, in the sense that everything is in SPPAAAAAAACE!

Thor has a long history of being just-ok, and a tide-over to the next Avengers movie, THIS DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THAT!

This movie looks to have action, drama, importance to the following stories, it looks just epic!! It's a must watch in Imax 3d this one, just have a look!

MUSIC VIDEO: Thong Song?

It's a new song! Thong Song! Wait, isn't that...wait, that is! And he, oh yes he did! It's Sisqo giving a fresh spin on his absolutely ICONIC song!

THONGS!

The comments are hilarious on the video, people are unhappy that there are no dumps like trucks in the video, but I don't think Sisqo cares, this song will do well and introduces Thong Song to a whole new generation. It takes the original and adds all the trinkets pop music has made us used to now. It's not the best song, but like Wild Thoughts, plays on nostalgia to hook you in. I'll have it.

Watch the video here (not, semi NSFW because of ample bum shots):

VIDEO: Batman Vs Superman (Pokemon)

The question still stands, who will win, Batman, or Superman? It really depends on who you're a fan of hey!

There should be no way that Batman should beat Superman, but Batman fans will tell you otherwise. He's a genius, he'll figure out a way, he's BATMAN! Superman is a boring hero, too bland and powers are wide-ranging.

So one talented team of YouTubers took it upon themselves to settle this debate...by doing a Pokemon parody of the battle! You can check it out here!

VIDEO: Zygote

Neill Blomkamp has always been cutting edge and trendy with his work, and originating from South Africa, it's great to see his ascent in Hollywood. His latest work is a collection of short films, under the moniker 'Oats Studios', with the newest one being pretty intense.

It stars Dakota Fanning and it is dark, intense, and if you don't like creepy monsters, quite scary! I haven't seen the others, but will do so soon, but this one, shows again why Blomkamp is so highly-rated.

So go into a dark room, get your popcorn and nestle in for this dark fantasy.

Is Moana a demi-god too?

Moana is not only one of the biggest Disney successes in the last few years, it's one of the biggest animation movies since the dawn of the 2000s, with a story that is gives all the warm fuzzies we expect of Disney/Pixar film. It's amazingly animated, well researched and funny as well, with a soundtrack that will stick in your brain for long to come.

But if you've seen it, and you're an adult and not a kid that just looks out for bright colours and catchy songs, then some parts of the story might've bothered you a bit. One of my favourite Youtube channels, 'Film Theory' breaks down a very interesting theory on why and how Moana can do the things she does, and why she is so closely connected to the ocean, and almost impervious to dying. You must check it out!

Jingle All the Way

Last few days I had a mini epiphany. I'm good at making jingles

I have been doing video content for over 10 years already and because of copyrights and me being an actual muso, I always just whip up something for my stuff, and I've never thought of doing anything more with them than actually using them in my stuff.

So Now I'm offering jingle-making to the collection of things I do on a freelance basis, if you know of anyone who needs something jingly, and they like what they hear in this jingleocalypse, they should contact me and we can chat. One has to hustle all over the show these days with the junk status and our tanking economy so why not. Jingle All the Way!

Spider-Man: Homecoming new trailer

Spidey is up against it and this new trailer fleshes out the previous trailer, showing why Peter fights in a home-made suit, a bit more on why the Vulture is doing what he's doing and shows some cool new stuff about his suit and even debuts spider-bots, along with a whole butt-load of action and quips.

And also more Tony Stark. I wonder (and hope) there'll at least be a few more Avengers cameos (we see Cap in the trailer to fleetingly)

This movie is gonna be wild, I wish I could pre-book my Imax ticket now already!!

Planetary Space

I personally feel that back when I was at school, we were taught a lot of unnecessary things, like where was the how-to-do-SARS Module 1, and Understanding-Car-Payments-Watch-For-Balloons 101, and so forth in school?

Not only that, I feel many of the things we learnt were either outdated or no longer valid, and I don't think that irrelevance or incorrectness has changed for school in this day and age, I'm about 33.3% sure of that! Take the Solar System for instance, we got fed pretty pictures and stale information about space and the moon but do we really even understand the basics?

I had a vague idea that the planets were pretty far away and spaced well apart from each other, but how cool is this website that really does an epic job of giving you an idea of how far apart everything is, and how far from us (on Planet Earth) things are; spoiler, very VERY far!

You can see the excellent site here, but do it in your lunchtime or after work because you'll be scrolling reading the fun facts in-between for a while!

DragonBall and who inspired the villians

Life inspires art, and art inspires life. Anyone that is artsy in anyway, knows this is true, and many of our favourite movie and series characters have been inspired by real life.

I grew up on Dragon Ball in high school, and was enthralled by it, little did I know that this axiom was true for ol' DB as well. This video really opened my eyes to some really awesome things. Now I'm really clued up on my favourite comic and super hero back stories and easter eggs, but back when you were a kid, you don't always know these things, just have a look at this video that really goes into some cool details about how Dragon Ball was made and who inspired some of the villains and backdrops.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR begins

As one of many who have been absolutely glued to the MCU since Iron Man did the impossible and build a franchise out of literal scrap metal, it is so amazing to see that the culmination of it all has begun. It's fascinating to think that all these characters with story arcs developed over so long will now all be in one big story together.

I am so amped to see how bad-ass Thanos is going to be and you can bet he will be because it's gonna take two whole movies to actually take him down, that's if they do eventually take him down, the Mad Titan is one of Marvel's most epic villains so I hope he reigns terror and Death down on the Avengers and that there are real risks and high stakes and that some of the older Marvel characters actually get killed off. With several contracts running out, you can bet (and hope) that's the case!

Enough from me, hear what the stars have to say!
